Have you ever seen driving home fighting the blinding sun and a headache from your stressful day at work? Not to mention how hard it is to see in front of you due to the surge of glare coming from the car you are following in your typical commute traffic. This should be a time to relax and unwind, not the time to fight a nagging headache and break a sweat even though the AC is running full blast. You need something to help combat the powerful rays of the sun and keep you cool even in a traffic jam in July.
North Carolina state law permits non-reflective tint on the top 5 inches of the windshield. We call this a “sun strip” of tint for your windshield. Not only that, but there is an alternative to window tint added to the windshield of your car that provides the same great benefits as window film without giving you any legal troubles come inspection time.
You love your car for many reasons – from the driving experience and styling to the comfort and security you feel behind the wheel. And with XPEL window tint you can add another – a more confident ride that comes from knowing you and your family are protected from the sun’s harmful UV rays, heat and glare and that your window tint was installed by a professional dealer.
Engineered to deliver a higher standard of performance, window tint is known for its quality, color stability and durable scratch-resistant coating. It is also known for its non-metallized ceramic window tints that maximize heat and UV rejection without interfering with your keyless entry, radar detector, mobile phone, and other radio frequency technology you rely on in your vehicle. While it’s rare to get sunburned through your car windows, harmful ultraviolet (UVA) rays that contribute to premature aging and skin cancer can still reach you.
Damage from UVA rays is cumulative as they penetrate deep into the skin and can silently accelerate the aging process, cause wrinkles and even skin cancer. In fact, research shows that drivers in the U.S. have a higher rate of skin cancer on their left side due to exposure while driving.
Why put up with this risk when you don’t have to any longer? XPEL window tint blocks more than 99% of harmful UV rays*. It’s why The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends window tint as part of a comprehensive skin care program.
Window tinting is priced per vehicle, based on how many windows you tint and which XPEL ceramic film you choose. We quote it after a quick look at your car and a conversation about heat rejection, privacy, and the look you want. ATD installs ceramic-grade XPEL film in two performance levels, not entry-level carbon tint, so you get real heat rejection and a clear price before we start.
In North Carolina, your front side windows must let in at least 35% of light, measured as visible light transmission (VLT). On SUVs, trucks, and vans, the rear side windows and back glass can go darker. The windshield can be darkened only along the top, above the AS-1 line, but NC law allows a clear film across the full windshield. ATD installs XPEL XR Blue, a nearly clear windshield film that cuts UV and heat without darkening the glass.
As of December 2025, window tint is no longer checked during the NC annual safety inspection, but the darkness limits still apply and are enforced at the roadside. There is also a newer rule: during a traffic stop, the driver must roll down the window on the side the officer approaches. ATD installs only NC-legal film, so your vehicle stays compliant.
Yes. ATD’s ceramic-grade XPEL window film blocks over 99% of UV rays, which protects your skin and keeps your interior from fading and cracking. It also rejects heat, keeping interiors up to 71% cooler on hot Carolina days. Both of our film levels block UV, so you stay protected whichever you choose.
Most window tint installs take a few hours, depending on your vehicle and how many windows you tint. We do the work in a clean, dust-controlled bay so the film goes on without contamination. After install, the tint needs a few days to fully cure, and we’ll tell you exactly how to care for it during that window.
